Today was an exciting Sunday! Krystin and I decided to take Peyton to her first movie. Just thinking about taking the Muffin to the movie made my stomach turn into knots and even turned a few of my hairs grey. Taking a child to the movies for the first time is risky business! It is like flipping a coin! It may be wonderful or it may be....well...um...a disaster. Well anyways, we sucked it up and sifted through the movie times and found the Movie "UP" Playing at a small cinema nearby. What attracted me was the $1.25 admission; you can't go wrong with that price. Meaning, if the muffin decides she is board and wants to start screaming in the middle of the theater....then fine..... We can just walk away and go home! It is always easier to walk away from a small investment!
So we picked the Showtime and we were off!! Uh Oh!! We were so excited about taking the muffin to the movies we never gave her a nap! So ZZZZZ...ZZZZZ.ZZZZ came from the back seat! She was out...not even a peep! Just...zzzzz..Zzzzz. I quickly thought to myself that this was going to be a lot easier than I thought...she may just sleep on my lap the whole time and we can tell everybody she was an angel at her first movie premiere...hehe.. Of course Mom was not on the same thought token I was on! Lol By the time we arrived at the movies, Peyton was still crashed out!
I took this time to grab a picture of us outside the Theater. It is easier to take pictures of toddlers when they are zonked! :) Otherwise you strain yourself trying to get them to hold still and smile! By the way this rarely happens all at one time.
We final made it to the box office, and at this time, Peyton was finally awake. We bought our tickets and with excitement entered the theater. We quickly got our seats and began to cross our fingers hoping for a smooth movie experience. I quickly popped out of my seat and ran to the concession stand to buy some popcorn, sour patch kids and some drinks! My reasoning: A happy, distracted kid is the best kid! Peyton was excited for her "Dink", that is how she says Drink! She also seemed to manage to get her hands on the sour patch kids, and wanted no part in sharing! Every time Mom or I would try to sneak a sour patch kid we got a screaming "NO! Mine!" so we figured we would not win this fight today and let her be!
The movie started and her face lit up! She was in the zone! Mom and I gave a little high five and started to relax and enjoy ourselves a little more! We were not sitting on pins and needles anymore!
The movie "Up" was awesome! Pixar Rocks! I have never been let down by them! The movie does a great job with the story line, humor, animation and being able to captivate adults as well as the children. Warning! Warning! The movie will make you choke up a little at the beginning and at the end....Us Dads will always try to hide it but we secretly cry too! lol
About 3/4 of the way through the movie...the muffin started to loose interest. She started to pick up old dirty popcorn off the floor and put it into our perfectly good bag! Ugh...gross...right???!! Well we noticed only after we saw her about to put a piece into her mouth.....ahhhhh... and in these moments I elbow Mom to come to the rescue and get her daughter in line! lol... Overall we had a great time! We gave Peyton a thumbs up for good behavior and a thumbs up to the movie "UP." So Two thumbs up it is!!! We had a blast!
Memorable Moments:
1. Peyton not sharing the Sour Patch Kids- "No Mommy...NO Daddy!"
2. Peyton had to put her sunglasses on because the character in the movie had glasses on
3. Sitting in a booster chair between Dad's Legs and staring up at the movie screen- she looked precious
4. Peyton saying, "Bye bye balloons," at the end of the movie!
PS...NO offense to anyone but a movie theater that has $1.25 tickets definitely draws in the weirdo’s. Yep..Yep..Yep! Maybe we are weirdo’s too!!
